“Chick” This Out!

Mrs. Deslatte’s Middle School Science classes have been patiently waiting on the arrival of their baby chickens. Mrs. Henderson brought fertilized eggs that were placed in Mrs. Deslatte’s incubator. After waiting 21 days, four out of the five eggs hatched! Parents, students, and community members were able to view the hatching via the live feed set up by Mr. Simmons. Come by Mrs. Deslatte’s room to “chick” them out!

SPISD Students Participate in Commercial By: Mrs. Deslatte

Our students, Allie Cavazos (senior cheerleader), Trey Stevens (senior football player), and Jessie Rouly (junior), with help from Olivia Saunders (senior cheerleader manager), participated in a commercial put on by Golden Triangle Emergency Center to promote awareness about sports injuries.  Golden Triangle Emergency Center proudly sponsors our school with donated footballs for our varsity cheerleaders to throw to fans at the football games.  We appreciate their support and are thankful for the opportunity to participate in their commercial.

Senior Section – The Final Chapter By: Lauren Waidley and Chelsea Traylor

The new year has begun and we have a new class of Shark seniors. A lot can be expected from your final year. Valeria Perez expects “to have fun and relax a bit more.” She also wants the senior class to be unified. When the senior year closes, Valeria hopes to have taken plenty of pictures and funny videos to preserve her memories of high school.  Senior, Brandon Miller, says he is ready for graduation. “I’m ready to move forward with my life and give 100% and hope to fulfill my dreams of stepping on the same court as Steph Curry.” Maxine Wright says it feels intimidating, yet relaxing at the same time. “There’s also a feeling of sadness at knowing it’s the last year of being a child.” Throughout her high school career, one teacher has continuously inspired Maxine. “Mrs. Chesson pushed me harder toward achieving my goal at winning the state competition for computer application.”  Good luck to our 2015 graduating class!

Shark Expectations for New School Year – By: Ja’leigh Cerf and Aisha Vaughn

It feels just like yesterday was the last day of school, but yet here we are starting another great school year.  Some new fish have been added to our growing ocean of Sharks.  Notable newcomer to high school, Korie Dominick, is a member of the Varsity Cheerleaders, as well as, a freshman on the Varsity volleyball team. “I just want to fit into high school,” says Korie.  Korie is also excited about taking Mrs. Henderson’s class.  Overall, it seems like Korie has a great year ahead of her!  Fourth grader, Julianna Nunez, is new to Sabine Pass.  Julianna had a wonderful first week of school because “it was nice and [she] made new friends and met new teachers.”  Julianna has a brother who has joined the 6th grade class this year.  Jose Nunez says “I wasn’t worried about coming to Sabine Pass because it seemed like a nice school.”  Jose enjoyed gym class because they started the week by doing a Fitnessgram.  He is already looking forward to joining the basketball team next year.

First grader, Cami White, is this week’s “Student of the Week!”  Cami’s favorite part of the day is when she gets to go to the gym for PE.  She loves learning about science, too!  Outside of school, Cami enjoys playing softball.  Cami was chosen because she really stands out in the 1st grade class.  She is known for being kindhearted and a hard worker.
